ADOPT-A-CHURCH PARTNERSHIP

Soon after the devastation of hurricane Katrina in September 2005 the North American Mission
Board of the Southern Baptist Convention initiated a plan of action to help with the reconstruction
and cleanup of Southern Baptist Churches in Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana and Texas who had
suffered catastrophic destruction from hurricane Katrina.

Burgin Baptist Church voted to become a part of this disaster relief project and we were assigned
to the First United Baptist Church New Orleans by the North American Mission Board in October
2005. Thru this partnership with FUBC and five other churches from across the United States
who were partnered with FUBC we have had a hands on experience to help restore the ministry
of FUBC New Orleans.

God has blessed Burgin Baptist Church with mission minded members who are ready, willing
and loving, and who gave of their resources to help a sister congregation in distress. In April 2006
four members from Burgin Baptist were able to travel to New Orleans and help in a cleanup
projected at FUBC. While our members were there, to work and pray a friendship was formed
with the members of three of the other partnering churches who came to serve the congregation
at FUBC in their time of need.
Eight months after hurricane Katrina and Rita we witnessed overwhelming destruction still visible
and many needs that haven't been meet. Continue to pray for the people in these areas as they
still are trying to survive and have a vital ministry among their own.
